Hey all!
So I'll explain a little about what this blog is all about. I'm a photographer from Barrie Ontario who has bought a house in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and is moving out east soon. This all came about because my husband Scott is originally from that area (Lark Harbour or LA to the locals -- more on that later), and I've always wanted to live out there ever since my first visit in 2004. So, after a little pressure from me, we bought a house using only my iPhone, a realtor named Jerry, a computer and Scott's parents. We still have not seen the house.
For the first 2 weeks of my journey, my good friend Jessica Wroe (aka The Jess Factor) will be accompanying me - helping me move, wrangling my cats in my teeny-tiny car, and being my entertainment. Jess, for those of you who don't know her, is a total riot - can't wait to see what crazy scheisse we get up to. I swear a lot, for those of you who don't know ME, but I've decided that every swear word will be written in some other language, for the kids sake. But honestly, what kid would be reading a boring blog about someone driving across Canada? If you are, comment below! I wanna meet you!! :)
Ok, so that's it for now. We leave in T-26 sleeps, but who are we kidding? We're not gonna sleep the night before!!! 25 sleeps it is.
:) Carolyn (aka Migrant Mainlander)
PS- Back to the LA thing. Yes, its called Lark Harbour, but out there no one pronounces the H. It's more like Lark 'Abour, thus, LA. I will hopefully be bringing you some more Newfoundland tidbits of information you may or may not find helpful. Things I learn, dialect clarification.... that sort of thing. Can't wait!
I'm no kid but can also do without the swear words. ;-) I am looking forward to your record of this new adventure!
ReplyDeleteWell Sandra, I am indeed my father's daughter on that one. Can't promise no swearing, but it doesn't sound so bad when its in German or French at least!!
ReplyDelete:) Welcome to my journey...
Haha, what exactly is schiesse....oh wait, is that one of your translations? nvm...got it. Only 22 sleeeeeepsssss!!
ReplyDeletethat's so amazing - the east coast is so pretty but they get wicked amounts of snow and not "wicked" in a good sense.
ReplyDeletegood luck with your move; i look fwd to reading about your east coast adventures!
btw, it's kathy, your old pal from franklin PS. you might want to take a look at this post for a laugh http://www.lifeinprogress.ca/lifeinprogress/2011/03/photo-fridays-the-elementary-years.html
Kathy! So good to hear from you, and to know you're along with me on my journey... :)
ReplyDeleteAnd so far (as Scott's parents live in LA) they don't get any more snow than Barrie each year (except this year) so it wont really be that big of a surprise for me. haha!
